In our inaugural film showing at Neotists Film Club, we present to you Night of the Living Dead as our first horror movie offering to coincide with Halloween. We follow a group of survivors who take refuge at the cellar of a farmhouse as they navigate their predicament and make difficult decisions one after another. Society and the world as they know it don’t exist anymore. What drives these individuals to keep going? We welcome you to come along to find out and join us for a discussion afterwards.
Here are also some questions we’d like you to think about while watching the film. It is optional, but we would love to hear your answers during the post-film discussion.
- What is your favourite scene/shot in the film? Why does this move you?
- Which character in the survivor group do you identify the most with? Why is that?
- A zombie apocalypse brings about the destruction of society, social norms and way of life. It is up to the survivors how to navigate this new world. There are many discussions drawing parallels to the effects of colonialism, racial segregation, refugeeship and economic collapse, among many other theories. Have you navigated any similar experiences? Does watching zombie/apocalyptic films inform your choices in life?
